Sustainable fashion pioneers Starfish Clothing, based in Wellington, are going great guns this year – the eco friendly label has gained the prestigious opening slot for NZ Fashion Week, which runs from Sept 21 – 25 in Auckland.

And us peeps here at The Big Shwop would like to congratulate them!

We think it’s fantastic that the organisers have chosen a sustainable fashion label that is 100% Made in NZ to open the show, and Starfish designer Laurie Foon summed it up perfectly with her quote in the Dom Post article in early August when she said: “It’s really important to us to prove that glamour and style can be achieved ethically.” And it’s SO true – it CAN be achieved!!

Starfish will also stage the much anticipated, first ever, eco-show at New Zealand Fashion week 2010.

Starfish clothing is designed with these 5 points in mind: ‘Everyday Splendour’, ‘Telling New Zealand Stories’, ‘Enduring Style’, ‘Well Made in NZ’ and ‘Sustainable Business Practices’. You can read about their commitment to sustainable and environmentally friendly practices here.

Other Big-name Kiwi designers that will feature at Fashion wekk include Zambesi, Nom*d, Trelise Cooper, Sabatini, Liz Mitchell and Annah Stretton, as well as Wellington labels Alexandra Owen, Twenty-Seven Names, Andrea Moore, Adrian Hailwood and Jimmy D.
